National Day of Mourning - April 28th
April 2, 2010

The National Day of Mourning is an annual remembrance of workers who died in the workplace or as a result of their occupations.

The Waterloo, Wellington, Dufferin and Grey Building and Construction Trades Council will mark this annual event at the Memorial Monument, Victoria Park, Kitchener, at 10:25am this April 28th.

Too often the people that build our society are forgotten in the day to day rush of business. It is important that we take the time to remember them and recall their sacrifice, of being injured, hurt or killed on the job.  More importantly we need to thank them for the service they have performed for our community.

The Day of Mourning was first observed by the CLC in the early 1980s and was officially recognized by the Canadian government in 1991; the Canadian flag on Parliament Hill traditionally files at half-mast today.

The observance has since been recognized in over 80 countries.
